Helen, Gypsy, Luanne and Plum all went to the vet today for their big girl vaccinations. Out of ALL the heifers born in 2019 (which was most of the calves except 3!) these are the 4 we’ve selected (for now) to retain as future breeding cows in our herd. Decisions are made on body type/style and also quiet temperament, both with equal importance. If they lack one or the other, we do not keep them for breeding.

One of the vaccines they received today was for brucellosis, also called a “Bangs” vaccine. It’s a state required vaccine for heifers and can only be given by a veterinarian. A Bangs vaccine is required to sell heifers or cows in the state of Washington and most other states as well.
