My First Cow

A long, LONG time ago, (9 years ago, to be exact!) when I was just a young lady, I brought home my very first cow… and I fell madly in love with cattle from that day forward. I was SO excited and proud to have bought her, my very first cow! It was a hard time in my life and I spent a LOT of time with her and my sweet goat, Clarence, out in my ramshackle barn. I even read to them out loud to keep them and myself company! It was so cozy and warm in there with them. One could not help but to feel loved!

Her name was Jasmine. She was a registered black Angus, retired from showing. She was huge, beautiful, patient, and absolutely amazing. I was completely enamored! She came to me bred, with a calf due the following August. That calf was Luna, who’s still a part of my breeding herd and has given me many more calves – including Gypsy, a heifer born last year, Jasmine’s granddaughter, that will stay as a member of our breeding herd the rest of her life, just like her mother.

Jasmine passed 5 years ago from complications from a c-section. I still miss her every single day. I am so grateful for what she did for me long ago – stirring up the embers in my heart and soul, fanning the flames to ignite my passion and love for cattle, and ultimately launching me into what I am doing today!

She was the matriarch of Fair Cow’s Path Farm – forever and always holding that esteemed title of, My First Cow. Thank you, my big, beautiful girl. I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing today if it hadn’t been for you ❤️❤️❤️
